The use of scented oils and perfumes is inextricably bound up with Witchcraft, magic, and occultism. Magical oils are used to concentrate the powers of an herb, flower, tree, or root much the same way as fluid condensers.
But the greatest value of oils is that they retain the full scent of the plant. And scents have powerful reactions upon the human intellect and emotions, even the body itself.
In Witchcraft, oil is a symbol of the element of fire, much as incense symbolizes air, and salt the earth. The oils capture, draw out, and store the essential nature of herbs and flowers, the basic energies that the old Witches called the fiery being.
Their magic works through vibrations and scent. The vibratory rate of an herb, oil, or incense determines whether it is beneficial or destructive, and the degree thereof.
These vibrations are then broken down into subcategories.
Those that are loving herbs and prosperity herbs, and so on.
All herbal magic works through vibrations. The magic of oils, however, also uses the olfactory sense in manifesting change. Scents trigger various centers in the brain and bring them into dominance. Thus, lilac oil stimulates the psychic center and helps develop clairvoyant powers. Other centers include the intellectual, spiritual, passionate, and so on.
Oil and perfume magic is a science that takes years to fully master. Anyone, however, can use oils in their magic following simple instructions.
The oils described in this course are to be used with caution and a sense of fair play. Wearing a seductive scent or a heady cologne is fine, but purposely trying to seduce someone through a fragrance is bordering on manipulation. Use your good sense of judgment when using these oils.
Some of these oils can be prepared at home for a fraction of what they cost in the stores. Naturally, the homemade ones are not of the same high quality, but the genuine, natural essential oils of some herbs and flowers are costly; many currently sell on the market for well over one thousand dollars an ounce.
Making the Oils
The simplest method is known as enfleurage. Fill a small jar with the leaves and petals of the herb(s) you wish to make an oil from. (Dried herbs will do if the fresh are not available.)
Next, pour olive oil over them to cover. Tightly cork or cap the jar and keep in a warm place (out of sunlight) for three days. Shake the bottle each day to thoroughly wet the leaves.
On the third day strain the oil, fill the jar with fresh leaves or flowers, and pour the same oil back into the jar. Repeat several times until the oil is heavily saturated with the fragrance.
Finally, strain the oil through filter paper or a piece of fine muslin and store in a tightly stoppered bottle, opaque being the best.
Some herbalists add a few drops benzoin tincture to the oils as a preservative. To make benzoin tincture, soak one tablespoon powdered benzoin in one-fourth cup good-quality vodka or apple cider vinegar for three weeks. Strain and keep tightly corked in a dark bottle.
The most propitious day upon which to make oils depends upon the type of oil but, since several days usually elapse during the manufacture of an oil, it is best to make the oil when the herbs and flowers are available, and if you wish, later dedicate it on the day and in the hour of the planet involved.
Dip the blade of your knife into the oil, then raise it to the skyvand say:
In the name of the Moon,
of the stars, and of the Sun,
I bless this oil.
This blessing may be used with any of the oils listed in this course. For making blends of oils, get some good, glass jars in which to blend the oils. Have your eyedropper ready to add the oils a drop or two at a time. In fact, if you have several droppers available, use all of them, one for each scent that you are blending.
Keep a jar of alcohol nearby to clean the droppers. Fragrance blending is an acquired art, and takes a keen sense of smell and vibrational content. With practice it comes easier.
These are all-purpose anointing oils, often worn during spellcasting and other magic pastimes. Their ancestors are the infamous flying ointments of the Persecution times.
Literally dozens of variations exist. Sometimes vervain oil is used alone, but usually in combination with other herbs. Here are a few examples:
All-Purpose Anointing Oils
As always, the artificial ambergris, civet, and musk scents may be used, as the natural are quite expensive and usually unavailable. Besides, they are taken from animals. Remember, harm none!
These are very powerful and worth the time and trouble it takes to make them. The first recipe can be made by the enfleurage method, the rest are best made by blending the already made (or store bought) oils.
There are thirteen traditional anointing points upon the body, and these are used when a very heavy aura of protection and psychic energy is desired around the body.
The anointing must be done nude, usually directly after the ritual purification bath. Dab a bit of the oil on the soles of the feet, the bend of the knees, the genitals, the base of the spine, the wrists, over the heart, the breasts, under the chin, and on the forehead.
Such an extensive anointing procedure should be undergone only when performing a full-fledged magical ritual, and even then it is not entirely necessary. If you wish, just dab a little on the wrists and forehead.
On a Friday evening when the Moon is waxing, gather a little ground orris root, an earthen bowl, and a quantity of pure olive oil. If you are a woman also have a vial of jasmine oil; patchouli will do for men.
Lay a pink cloth on the altar. Light pink candles. Pour the orris root into the earthen bowl, then add about half a cup of olive oil. Stir with the forefinger of your strong hand seven
times clockwise. Now add the essential oil, no less than three drops, no more than seven.
Place the bowl on the altar. Gaze into it, infusing the oil with your desire for love. Enchant it by saying:
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
Simple and to the point, right? You might want to substitute a favorite love poem or sonnet. Pour the oil into a jar and cork it tightly. Leave in a dark space, surrounded by the pink altar cloth, for seven days. Upon the next Friday night, uncork the bottle, strain, and then store in the same bottle until needed. Love oil should only be worn by its creator.
To make a personal protection oil, blend together the oils of rosemary, rose geranium, and cypress. This oil is also used to anoint candles and is added to protective cleansing baths.

When finished, pour into twin crystal jars. One of these is given to the woman; the other to the man. For seven nights, the couple should anoint one another, using their own jars. Then the oils should be blended together, poured into one of the jars, and the other jar should be hidden in some secret place.

Tips For Mixing
When you create your own blends, your thoughts, ideas and beliefs affect the power of the resulting blend. Only do one blend at a time, and concentrate on what the results are that you want. This is especially true if you use herbs and grind them fine. You could do the following. If you are making a hexing blend, imagine you grinding your enemies as you grind the herb. If you are making a prosperity blend, imagine prosperity being released from the herbs and the universe, and it coming to you as you grind the herbs.
With uncrossing blends imagine all bindings and curses being ground to dust. With protection, imagine all negativity or curses send to you being shattered and ground to dust. For love, imagine loving energy coming out of the herbs, mixing with yours, and then go to your ideal partner and bringing he/she to you.Since your emotions affect a blend greatly, do not do a love or prosperity blend when you are angry, sad, or afraid. Likewise do not do a hex breaking blend when you are afraid or have your mind on other things.Oils and herbs are there to aid your spell.
The most important thing in a spell is your intention, focus, and willpower. The most exotic ingredients may do nothing if you doubt the out-come. Your belief is more important than the ingredients. The ingredients in each blend bring their own scent and vibration. This affects you subtly, and changes your vibration in line with the results you want. Thus blends help you to focus and strengthen your intent of what you want, while adding additional power from their vibration and scent. But the two must be in sync.
With experience and imagination you will learn what works for you and what does not. That is why there are so many different blends. It also depends on what ingredients are available to you. When a formula for a blend has a * in front of an ingredient, it is a base oil and you will have one of several options to choose from. The base oil to use depends on your intended purpose. Almond oil is normally sweeter and used for love and prosperity. Olive oil is used for protection, hex and curse breaking, and cursing. Mineral oil is also used for protection, but is believed to be better for hexing. Castor oil is good for control and
commanding spells, as well as cursing. Jojoba is a liquid form of wax and does not go rancid. For most blends if you use herbs, you will need to either strain it or add vitamin E to stop it from going rancid.
Always store your oils away from heat and sunlight. You can use amber or dark colored glass bottles to store them in. You can use the oil version on a candle, and burn the powdered form on a charcoal block when doing a spell. Such as for prosperity you can use crown of success oil on a candle and the powder form on a charcoal block. Or use crown of success oil on a candle and road opener powder on a charcoal block. Powdered blends are mostly used in gris-gris or mojo bags, or burned on charcoal blocks. However. You can anoint a candle in a base oil and roll the candle in the powder.
Oil blends are also used to anoint objects and crystals. Both powder or oil can be sprinkled around your property, and entrances. Oils and waters are used to wash floors and windows, as wells as entrances. Oils are normally also used to anoint your person. Such as the soles of your feet, and the palms of your hands for protection. Your pulses and temples can also be anointed.
Anointing the soles of your feet is often done when you are afraid that someone has sprinkled or buried something that you may walk over or may sprinkle something onto you in per- son. This is especially true for court cases where people may go before you and sprinkle tongue tied powder or total ruin powder in your path in order to make you lose or not be able to defend yourself or give testimony.

Most of us would like a little long-term security—the knowledge that our resources are steady and can be relied upon. The Full Moon is a wonderful time to work for changing your prosperity situation. If you are not making the kind of money that you would like or if your job has come to a dead-end and is no longer satisfying to you, then it is definitely time to make a change. If there are too many leaks and holes in your life through which your resources are escaping, it is time to move to a more positive way of living. This is a time to open up new lines of resources and to safeguard and optimize the ones you
have that you would like to keep so that your flow of abundance is stable and adequate to whatever needs may come up.
Using a base of pine, fir, or evergreen brings in the energy of perpetual abundance. These trees are green and strong year- round, which is definitely an energy you want to relate to your resources. Cinquefoil’s “green” smell brings in good luck, powerfully breaking the bonds of inertia that have limited you in the past while encouraging the energy of material prosperity.
Cypress also has a rich green smell. This old man of the swamps can live through even the darkest of rainy days and thrive on it. Its energy brings long duration to the spell along
with deep strong roots to permeate all phases of your life. To add a note of floral lightness, add jasmine. It is a powerful conductor of prosperity and money, bringing abundance and
material happiness from many quarters.
Long-Term Abundance Oil
•4 parts pine or evergreen—perpetual abundance
•2 parts cinque foil (five finger)—green smell, breaking bonds, power, material prosperity, good luck
•1 part cypress—survives rainy days (lives in deep water), ensures longevity and duration of the spell
•1 part jasmine—wealth and material well-being, happiness
Choosing a Charm for Abundance and Prosperity
Malachite’s earthy energy makes this an excellent choice for an abundance stone. As the individual removes whatever blocks he or she might have to achieving their goal, malachite holds the place open left by these limitations until they are re- placed with the desired positive structures. Its earthy nature as an oxide of copper makes it an excellent tool to bring material well-being into physical manifestation.
Changing Your Life—Blessing Your Space
This is also an excellent time to bless and consecrate the space in which you are living. More than just a place to hang your hat and lay your head, the space you live in has a powerful effect on you every moment you occupy it. You may want to change your life, but unless the vibrations of your living and sleeping space concur with that purpose, they will constantly reinforce old negative patterns that have been in place all along. This is the time to put the seal on whatever “Spring cleaning” you have done through the Moon’s darker phases.
It is now time to bring in the light and bless your space for a new and more radiant purpose.A good blend to use for this is a fuller version of the light blessing we used for the Waxing Moon’s small projects.
You may mix this up as an oil if you like, or make a mixture of the dry ingredients with frankincense and myrrh tears (as the chunks are called), sandalwood shavings, and crushed bay leaves. Sprinkle this mixture with rose oil and toss it thoroughly so that the rose essence permeates the blend. Then store it in a tightly sealed jar so that the oil will not dissipate. Burn this on a charcoal block so that the smoke creates a powerful smudge to fill the space. It will drive out any negativity while blessing and protecting the space. It evokes a feeling of well-being and lifting of spirits that will allow you to create life anew in your space. This works as well for a space that you have been living in for a while that you want to change, as well as for new quarters you have just moved into.
If you are moving into an older home, it is ideal for resetting the space and clearing out any residual energy from previous tenants. If smoke is not an option due to the limitations of somespaces, such as a dormitory or office building, mix up the oil and then dilute it into alcohol or dypropylene glycol to use as a mist or spray. If you do so, be sure that as you bless the room, you cover the windows and light sockets and switches, as well as any air vents—any means of ingress or egress from the space. When you are done, the space will be completely blessed, sealed, and prepared for the new energy you want to bring into it.
•4 parts frankincense—banishes negativity and barriers, protects, consecrates
•4 parts myrrh—transforms energy, protects, strengthens, banishes negativity, brings material gain, success
•4 parts sandalwood—protection, harmony, balance
•2 parts bay—protection, purification, hex-breaking, overcoming opposition, consecration
•2 parts rose—transformative, consecrates
Charging a Guardian for Blessing Your Space
To complete your blessing work, you may want to charge something to stand as a guardian of your space. This can be anything from a statue that you keep on the shelf to a plaque you hang over the door. Whatever form you choose, it should be a solid object with enough structural integrity to maintain an energy charge and stand the test of time in physical durability. A wreath of flowers is generally not solid enough to fulfill either of these, but a bouquet of appropriately chosen herbs can add to the protection of your house or living space. Traditionally, this would include a sprig of rosemary both for protection and for bringing good luck and happiness.
It may also include basil for consecration, harmony, and happiness; lavender for protection, love, and peace; and bay leaves for protection and good luck. Take sprigs of each herb and make them into a small bundle. Bind the bundle with red thread or yarn for power and protection and hang it over your door. Every Spring you should replace the bundle with a new one and renew your blessing charm.
If you wish to charge a solid guardian, complete the cleansing and blessing of your space. Then in the center of the central room, take your chosen guardian object and focus your intention on it. Place the entire force of your focus on making this object the focal point of power for your peace and protection. See the guardian as alive and containing a conscious Spirit that will vigilantly guard and protect your space even when you are far from home.
Courage of the Heart—Beyond Empowerment
There are times in nearly everyone’s lives when it requires more than just a momentary uplifting of natural confidence.Sometimes situations have become so ingrained and entangled that it requires serious self-transformation before you can make the changes you want. The confidence and courage to act on one’s dreams is as important as the dreams them-selves. Painful, limiting situations need to be drawn to a conclusion.
Circumstances must be changed in order to move onward and outward. Often an individual has been trapped in self-limiting beliefs about him- or herself for years. Self-doubt can be a crippling condition and can cause you to watch your opportunities pass you by. A powerful formula combined with strong ritual work and meditation can help you find your inner strength and belief in yourself that you need to change your life and surroundings.Carnation is the central element of this blend. It is ruled by the Sun, and its fiery nature is a strong stimulant to release its emotionally healing potential. It strengthens, blesses, and protects you in the course of your personal transformation.
Cedar is also a fiery element and adds to the carnation by having similar properties that are connected to material success and strength. Redwood empowers and strengths the Spirit, while allspice reinforces the strength of will you will need to make the changes necessary.Courage of the heart is the final step of an entire cycle dedicated to your commitment to changing your life that should include a thorough house-cleaning during the darker phases of the Moon. Its results will be long lasting and it is likely you will see the effects of this process for months, if not years, after the process is complete.
Courage of the Heart Oil
•1 part cedar—strength
•2 parts dragon’s blood—power
•1 part rose geranium—confidence and courage
•2 parts redwood—empowerment

Choosing a Charm for Courage of the Heart
Pad parajah is the common name given to a pink-orange sapphire. Being akin to sapphire, it specifically connects to the throat center that is the center of will and intention. Choosing a Charm for Spirituality and Inner Awakening
Clear quartz has come to be synonymous with crystal. Its pure transparent structure is made of silicon dioxide, and this allows it to resonate with all of the energy systems that encompass the individual—spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional. When you are working for inner transformation, quartz makes an excellent focus stone because it addresses the person as a unity of energies. It unifies the energies of whatever intention you put behind it in a balanced and harmonious pattern across all of the energy centers.
This makes it ideal for use as a focus stone in spiritual work. Set it between two white
candles so that it reflects and refracts their light for a meditation stone, or wear it as a charm to carry the benefit of your meditations throughout the day.
