Santa Muerte Oil

How to make the Santa Muerte Oil

Herbal Ingredients:

  • Rose  – for Santa Muerte devotees in Mexico, the personification of death is viewed as a woman, and one of her favorite offerings to receive is flowers, especially roses. They represent the softer, loving, and merciful side of the Santa Muerte.
  • Tobacco – although soft enough to appreciate the gift of roses, Santa Muerte is also known for her many vices, which is why devotees often offer Santa Muerte cigars, booze, and candy. Here, the tobacco represents Santa Muerte’s vices, her approachable down-to-Earth spirit, her “live for the moment” attitude, and her ability to connect with us in the physical realm.
  • Copal – known as a powerful spiritual protector and purifier, copal has a long history in Mexico for its connection to the dead and it’s considered one of the Santa Muerte’s favorite incense aromas. Used here to represent the spiritual, magickal, and mystical nature of Santa Muerte.

Other Items:

  • Mortar and Pestle – for grinding your herbal ingredients into a fine powder.
  • Mini-Mason Jar – or other suitable container. For storing your Home Protection magick powder. Mini mason jars are recommended because they offer a wide mouth for easy pouring.
  • 1 White Candle – to invoke the energy of the White Cloaked Santa Muerte, Holy Saint Death.

Powder Instructions –

At your Santa Muerte altar in the glow of the white candle’s flame, grind together approximately equal parts of herbal ingredients into a powder. Copal is often sold as a chunk of resin, which may be difficult to grind in a mortar and pestle, but freezing the copal will make grinding easier.

As you grind the herbal ingredients, recite and meditate on the Santa Muerte magick prayer found below. Praying over the herbs while you grind them into powder will help you focus the energy of the potion toward your desired intent of working successfully with the Santa Muerte.  Be careful of breathing in the dust of the herbs as you grind, as it may cause irritation.

Transfer to the mini-mason jar or other container, and leave in the light of your white candle until the candle burns to completion. Label the jar or container.

To use powder, recite the Santa Muerte magick prayer included below while you sprinkle in areas where you want to invoke the spirit and energy of Santa Muerte, our Most Holy Saint Death. Sprinkle in living areas to destroy negativity, in areas of business to destroy barriers to financial success, under the bed to eliminate obstacles keeping you from finding  a lover, etc.

When you want to invite the spirit and energy of the Santa Muerte into a space, but can’t build a physical altar, sprinkle this powder as you focus on inviting the Santa Muerte into the area, and recite the below included magick prayer.

Santa Muerte Oil

You Will Need –

Ingredients:

  • Santa Muerte Powder – from the instructions above.
  • Mamey Bone Oil – a magickal oil base common in love and beauty formulas, mamey bone oil is used here to represent the Santa Muerte (or “Boney Lady”, as she is often called), and her love for us all.

Other Items:

  • Mini-Mason Jar – for storing your Santa Muerte oil. Mini mason jars are recommended because they offer a wide mouth for easy pouring. Also, small batches are recommended because magick oil has a shelf life, so you shouldn’t make more than you intend on using over the next few months.
  • 1 White Candle – to invoke the energy of the White Cloaked Santa Muerte, Holy Saint Death.

Oil Instructions –

At your Santa Muerte altar in the glow of the white candle’s flame, combine in your mini-mason jar or other magick oil container your Santa Muerte powder and mamey bone carrier oil. There is no rule as to how much powder you should add to the oil, but a ratio of about 10% powder to 90% oil will do just fine.

Stir or mix until all dry powder is incorporated. As you do that, continue to recite the Santa Muerte magick prayer (found below) over your potion while meditating on the intent of working successfully with the Santa Muerte.

Leave in the light of your white candle until the candle burns to completion. Label the jar or container.

Store your new batch of magick oil for at least 10 days in a cool, dark place before use to allow the carrier oil enough time to absorb the energies of the dry ingredients. During this time, you can periodically mix the ingredients as you pray the Santa Muerte magick prayer and focus on the magickal intent behind the potion. Your oil is ready for magickal work after the 10th day. Continue to store in a cool, dark place when not in use.

To use oil, recite the Santa Muerte prayer while you anoint areas where you want to invoke the spirit and energy of the Santa Muerte, and while you anoint items you want to bless in Santa Muerte’s name. Anoint areas of your home or business for general protection and blessings. Anoint items that you want the Santa Muerte to cleanse, make magickal, or protect.

As like with the powder formula above, this oil works great when you want to invite the spirit and energy of the Santa Muerte into a space, but can’t build a physical altar.

Santa Muerte Magick Prayer
